KELP AND WHY YOU SHOULD USE IT

Monday, 29 October 2012 07:43

On a Nutritional Balancing program there are some nutrients or supplements that are generally recommended for almost everyone and kelp is one of these. Kelp is a sea vegetable and has been eaten by various non-western cultures for centuries. One of the main reasons it is recommended is due to its Iodine content and the fact it contains 20 to 30 essential trace minerals.

Most people will benefit tremendously by taking about three 500 mg kelp capsules daily or more. If you use tablets, you must take at least 12 to 15, as most tablets are quite small. Another option is about 1-2 teaspoons of kelp granules daily. These do not taste very good, but can be cooked into many dishes. Children need much less kelp, as iodine is more important for adults, in general. If this amount of kelp causes "jitteriness", take less initially. Usually, just like GB3 use, it can take some time for your body to get used to it but most people will be able to use it over time.  If it interferes with sleep, do not take it in the evening. Cooking kelp does not interfere with its mineral content at all. Other iodine supplements and foods are less highly recommended, though they do provide usable iodine. Iodized sea salt (not table salt) is fine, but does not provide enough for most people

Anyone who has read some of my blogs in the past will know that I caution everyone to be very aware of what goes into our bodies. Toxic metals are very prevalent and they hitch a ride into our bodies with the nutrients such as our food and water. This most certainly applies to kelp as well. A drawback of kelp, as compared with other iodine supplements, is it contains some toxic metals since it comes from the ocean. However, kelp more than all the other sea vegetables, offers more protective chemicals, among them alginates These can bind and harmlessly remove toxic metals found in the kelp and in a person's intestinal tract. This is quite a benefit in some cases.

IodineWith the potential toxic metal issue one might be thinking why even bother in the first place. There are very good reasons. In the periodic table of the elements you will see that above Iodine is Bromine then Chlorine and then Fluorine. The net effect of this is that Iodine is "cancelled out" by the elements above it. In a real world example our high intake of chlorine and fluoride in our drinking water in particular, has cancelled out the ability of our bodies to use Iodine very well. The very real effect on us is that we are Iodine deficient even though there is enough Iodine in the body technically.

This is why we need more iodine in our diet. Of course the better solution is to ensure that you are not taking in any chlorinated or fluoridated water. Keep in mind though that any food processed with water will have exposure to chlorine and likely fluorine. In reality this is simply just not possible to avoid and it is why Iodine is recommended.

So there you have it on why kelp is recommended for almost everyone. It is a sad state that our modern world has created this environment but we must do our best to counteract the toxic assault that is a daily occurrence. This is not a doom and gloom scenario just a statement of fact and with a Nutritional Balancing program is something that can be overcome.
